Gerardiny Foundation is named after her parents: Gerard and Diny Dijkhuis.
Since 2018 I have been to Sri Lanka three times and was seized by the beautiful scenery and the lovely people who live there. But was also affected by the difficult conditions of the poor people. I wanted to do something about this and have taken the initiative to build a house for them.
In 2019, we want to start building a house in Sri Lanka that will offer shelter to approximately 10 single older women who have no other source of income. Especially those elderly people who do not have children or for whom the children are unable to take care of them, live in extremely poor conditions. These elderly people often live on the streets because there is no social security. We want these women who have led a hard life and sometimes are in poor health can enjoy in the last years of their lives.
We want to build the house near Homagama. The House gets 5 bedrooms with bathroom on the ground floor, a shared living room and kitchen. On the first floor there is sleeping for the staff.
